The Cross House was built in 1894. It is located at 526 Union Street, in Emporia, Kansas. I purchased the house in March 2014.

CH: Day 154

Redoing the vent was a sudden decision. Poor Eric. But today, with great gallantry, he smiled at my can-we-do-this thought and dived into the task. The effort proved somewhat comedic as we kept having to hunt for the right screws, the right bit, silver duct tape, metal strapping, and more vent….

A Rain Day

Yesterday, Friday, I had planned to install lap-siding under the north kitchen window, adjacent to the entry. It was raining though. Never-ending rain. So, I switched to inside the garage finishing what Eric and I did on Wednesday. When I was almost done the same Eric appeared as if by magic and made me an…

CH: Day 142

Things slowed WAY down this past week due to a lot of snow and plummeting temperatures. This upcoming week though…squee!…indicates no snow and no cold. Thus, my plan is to complete the vinyl siding. For 40 years I never thought this could possibly excite me: “my plan is to complete the vinyl siding.” Life…

Wanna Meet The Library?

When I purchased the Cross House in 2014 the library has been gutted to the studs. In early 2015 I had the room sheet-rocked and painted. Then I began the laborious process of installing shelving and moving my library to the house. I did not decorate the room but assumed that this would happen soon….

CH: Day 140

Drove to the Cross House yesterday. Light snow. Arrived at house, had lunch, then glazed the new north leaded-glass window in basement workroom. Glanced out eyebrow window.  Oh shit! Quickly finished. Darted to car through a LOT of snow. Drove home with a top speed of 40. Watched a car in front of…
